FAQ for Tax Deductions
We have recently sent out the donor tax substantiation statements for 2021.
Please review your statement for completeness and accuracy.
Here’s a guide to What’s Deductible and What’s Not:
- Community Commitment is a contribution. It is deductible.
- Tuition for Religious School or Preschool is not deductible.
- Contributions to the various funds ranging from Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund to the Music Fund are deductible.
- Tickets to an event like the annual Purim Carnival are not deductible.
- Sisterhood and Men’s Club dues are deductible.
- Donations for Yahrzeit Plaques and Leaves on the Tree of Life are deductible.
- Donations made with funds from a Donor Advised Fund, Charitable Foundation, or Qualified IRA distribution are not deductible.
- Some items may be partially deductible to the extent that the donation exceeds the value of any goods or services provided.
- Sponsored kiddushes are not deductible.
- Donations for the Kiddush Fund are deductible.
- Purchase of Agudas Achim cemetery plots and perpetual care for those plots are not deductible.
- The credit card convenience fee is listed as not deductible because it has been implemented as a mandatory fee for service.
- Please consult your tax advisor regarding whether the convenience fee on contributions made to Agudas Achim Congregation are deductible.
