Teams are forming all over town for the May 5 StepALIVE!Walkathon, ALIVE!’s major fundraiser for its Child Development Center (CDC), and AAC ALIVE! is eager to recruit for its team. So revved up, in fact, that an anonymous donor has promised a $5 match for every actual walker and a $1 match for every “virtual walker” (think donor).
StepALIVE! is a fun stroll for individuals, families and friends through historic Old Town Alexandria. Participants register, start and celebrate afterwards (think food, live music, a raffle) at First Christian Church, 2723 King Street.
The Walkathon raises scholarship funds for children attending the center, which has provided full-day, year-round accredited early education and childcare for low-income working families since 1972. Many CDC parents find it difficult to afford even reduced tuition afforded by sliding-scale fees. With its own vibrant preschool, AAC knows how stimulating early education prepares children for school. That’s why the congregation is a Walkathon sponsor and why member participation is so important.
Congregants can encourage friends and relatives to join them on the AAC team. Sign up at http://stepalivewalk.org. Typing Agudas Achim in the “Search Participants” box links directly to our team page.
Joan Hartman Moore, AAC’s liaison to ALIVE!, is working on the mechanics of creating sub-teams within the AAC team page—Sisterhood, Men’s Club, Preschool—and any other constituencies interested in a little friendly rivalry. Which group can turn out the most walkers, virtual walkers and donors? Will there be prizes? In the meantime, sign up for the AAC team and see if we can exceed our own past achievements and outpace some of the other 42 ALIVE!-member congregations. Questions? Contact Joan.
