Alexandria Carpenter’s Shelter Holiday Meal

Sisterhood appreciates prior congregation member monetary donations provided in previous years to support the Alexandria Carpenter’s Shelter holiday meal and clients’ needs in the upcoming year.  We invite our members to again submit monetary donations to support this worthy organization through January 31st, 2025.  After speaking with Shelter Staff, funding to be provided in December will be used to support their identified “Cards for Compassion” adult residence gift program and the remaining funds will be donated, as in past years, for the Shelter Staff to use as needed to support Shelter clients during 2025.  Please email Lisa Bregman at lisa.bregman@verizon.net identifying the amount of the donation and planned method of submission, i.e., through Shulcloud, or check to be mailed or dropped off at the Synagogue, identifying “Agudas Achim Sisterhood, Carpenter’s Shelter Support” in the memo line.  If anyone prefers to donate Target gift cards, the Shelter’s preferred gift card, they are also welcome and should be mailed to the Shul or hand carried and put in the Sisterhood mailbox, with the envelope marked for “Agudas Achim Sisterhood, Carpenter’s Shelter Support”.  Sisterhood will send remaining funds and gift cards received through January 3,t 2025 to the shelter in early February.

Carpenter's Shelter Reaching "New Heights"

Note from Shelter Staff:

For more than 30 years, Carpenter’s Homeless Shelter has opened its hands to lend much-needed support to thousands of men, women and children in Northern Virginia. Founded by an interfaith effort in a church basement in the winter of 1988, Carpenter’s has relied on churches and synagogues to provide meals, clothing, tutoring, and most importantly, listening ears to homeless families and adults as they strive to live a more productive and healthy life.

The shelter is incredibly grateful for their many years of support of our good work in the community.

Many thanks to the following congregations which have graciously supported the New Heights campaign:
Agudas Achim Congregation
Alfred Street Baptist Church
Christ Church
Christ the King
Commonwealth Baptist Church
Good Shepherd Lutheran
Grace Community Church
Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill
St. Paul Christian Center
St. Paul's Episcopal Church
Washington Street United Methodist Church
Westminster Presbyterian Church

Shelter Redevelopment News
The new shelter is much more than just a building, it is a safe, welcoming refuge for all. Shelter staff are working with vendors to make sure the furniture, technology and security are in sync with one another. They are striving to make residents’ transition from homeless to housed as productive and positive as possible.
